Caritas Coimbra attended WorldCist’17

Between April 11 and 13, 2017, Caritas de Coimbra participated in the 5th World Conference on Information Systems and Technologies – WorldCist17, held in Porto Santo.

In this conference the authors of the specialty were invited to present their work in several areas: A) Information and Knowledge Management; B) Organizational Models and Information Systems; C) Modeling of Software and Systems; D) Software Systems, Architectures, Applications and Tools; E) Multimedia Systems and Applications; F) Computer Networks, Mobility and Pervasive Systems; G) Decision Support and Intelligent Systems; H) Big Data Analytics and Applications; I) Human-Computer Interaction; J) Ethics, Informatics and Security; K) Health Informatics; L) Information Technologies in Education; M) Information Technologies in Radiocommunications.

Caritas Coimbra, through the Innovation Department was represented in the panels I) Human-Computer Interaction and J) Ethics, Informatics and Security with the presentation of two articles as a result of the collaborative work between the partners of the GrowMeUp project and also of the partnerships with universities and research institutes – University of Aveiro and Pedro Nunes Institute.

The article “Verification Methodology of Ethical Compliance for Users, Researchers and Developers of Personal Care Robots” was presented on the 11th by Carina Dantas, where in addition to presenting a methodology for ethical verification in the development of technologies, the public was sensitized for the importance of safeguarding ethical issues in the use of information in a technological environment. This is a subject that is increasingly highlighted by the European Commission, but which is still scattered and scarcely comprehensible to the actors of the value chain: researchers, programmers and end users. This approach is one of the scientific results of the GrowMeUp project (H2020).

The work of collaboration with Aveiro University and Pedro Nunes Institute to transcribe and validate a translation into European Portuguese of the USE questionnaire that evaluates the usability of the technology – “European Portuguese Validation of Usefulness, Satisfaction and Ease of Use Questionnaire (USE)” was presented in Panel I ) Human-Computer Interaction by Ana Jegundo, on the 12th. The pertinence of this article is related to the tools selected to evaluate the pilot of the project. These were chosen on the basis of validated questionnaires in order to compare results between the countries participating in the project (Portugal Netherlands) and between technological projects. In Portugal there was no validated version of this scale that could be used under the GrowMeUp project.
