Caritas Coimbra discusses Strategies for Age-Friendly Environments in Ireland

Caritas Diocesana de Coimbra participated as lecturer at the International Conference Increasing Capacity for Age-Friendly Environments in Europe: an Action Agenda for European Cities and Communities, in Malahide (Dublin), Ireland, on 25 and 26 October.

Organized by Age-friendly Ireland, in partnership with the European Covenant on Demographic Change and the European Commission, the conference was attended by a very broad European panel of participants, from members of the European Commission and World Health Organization, to public authorities, Private partnerships and even members of local Elderly Councils.

Several issues related to friendly environments for all ages and active and healthy ageing policies were discussed, mainly of a strategic nature, with a view to expanding and disseminating these initiatives at a global level.

It started with a panel on Innovation for Convergence, in which the President of the European Covenant on Demographic Change, Furio Honsell and one of his Vice-Presidents, Joan Martin, Sharing of best practices, promoting the replication of projects across Europe.

Caritas Coimbra participated in panel 2 | Implementing Innovation in friendly environments for all ages, in which Carina Dantas has shaped the experience of her organization, as well as the role of the Covenant and the European Partnership for Active and Healthy Aging in the bottom-up scaling up of existing local good practice, but stressed The need for this scaling up to be made from the top to the bottom, changing policies and aligning wills at the level of regional and international decision-makers, so as to be able to implement real societal changes.

Panels 3 and 4 were addressed to the monitoring and measurement of project impacts as well as the risks and rewards to be taken into account in the implementation of future initiatives.

Alongside the Conference, a display of good practices was held, with the Caritas stand counting on the dissemination of the global work of the institution, of flagship projects such as GrowMeUp and IdoVis, as well as dissemination of the European Covenant on Demographic Change, of which is also Vice-President.
