Caritas of Coimbra had a very active participation in AAL Forum 2017

Caritas Coimbra participated very actively in the AAL Forum 2017, held in Coimbra from 2-4 October.

The minutes with the conclusions of this participation have now been shared with the European Commission and the AAL Program and are available for consultation.
Ana Luísa Jegundo, from the Innovation Department of Caritas Coimbra, participated in the first plenary session of the event – Pros and cons: The AAL solutions perceived value by suppliers, buyers and users. Here, the perspectives of the different actors in the value chain of AAL solutions were discussed, emphasizing the need for a better alignment of national, regional and European strategies in terms of public policies on health care and social services, in articulation with the private initiative, in order to create alternatives that can integrate AAL solutions in the routines of the older persons.

The same speaker participated in the Workshop “Bridges between Europe – integrating health and social care towards innovation”, organized by Caritas Coimbra and moderated by Birgit Morlion, of the European Commission, which was attended by representatives of some European networks with who Caritas has been carrying out a work of proximity. The main conclusion of this debate is related to the need to promote a flexible and dynamic strategy involving the different European, national and regional networks and to promote the alignment of public strategies with regard to the integrated vision of health care and social care.

On the last day of the event, Ana Luísa Jegundo moderated the Workshop “Voice to users – is AAL already in your lives?” Organized by the AGE Platform Europe and attended by representatives of national and European entities representing end users; entities of the scientific system and public authorities. This debate focused on the different points of view of speakers, the challenges and potentialities of the use of AAL technologies by the older persons in their daily routines and how their involvement in the entire process of technological development can be enhanced.

The AAL (Active and Assisted Living) Forum is one of the largest European events in the field of active and healthy ageing combined with the use of new technologies and intelligent systems that took place in Portugal, in the city of Coimbra. It presents the best of research and current practice, with emphasis on promoting the independence and social life of the older persons, and that optimize spending on health and social support. The 2018 edition will be held in Spain, in the city of Bilbao.
